Fighting climate change using N2O reducing bacteria
Have you heard of laughing gas (N2O), the forgotten greenhouse gas? N2O heats up the Earth around 300 times more than CO2 and is emitted by soils when we apply fertiliser. In our group we work with bacteria that can break down this N2O, and our field experiments show that emissions can be reduced by up to 95% using these bacteria. This provides us with a powerful tool for fighting climate change.
