Germ Cells, eggs and sperm, have this unique challenge to acquire the potential to to give rise to all the cells of an organisms at the same time to retain their 'germness'. By 'germlness' I refer to their identity which is essential to ensure the "immortality" of this cell lineage which in turn ensures reproduction and survival of a species.
