Legacy power grid before the smart grid was unidirectional. There was no communication between the utilities and the consumers. There was no robust way of identifying faults. Smart Grids brought two way communication between them and various components of the Grid. Artificial Intelligence is playing a key role in ensuring power outages are mitigated and clean, safe and cheap power is provided.
