The waste generated from discarded electronics is a disaster, not least because we are throwing away or limited natural resources. Metal oxides are used in most electronic applications outside the silicon chip, but they are not recyclable. Sustainable alternatives may be molecular materials that can be dissolved and recovered after use but first we need to develop their functional properties.
